I want to talk to you today about how awesome you are. Are you a mom? Are you expecting? Are you a dad or another caregiver perhaps? Sometimes its difficult for us to take a compliment -- for us to RECEIVE a compliment. I’ve been working with a wonderful woman named Star Staubach who has really helped me to hone this skill of receiving. I have posted a link to her below. It makes a huge difference in your day to focus on the positive. So when someone gives you a compliment or you can toot your own horn about something that your kids are doing take the opportunity! It increases that positive feeling, and that’s a good thing.
So, let’s all try to be more positive about being a mother, and about caring for others. In my work as a postpartum doula, I could go into work feeling, “Oh, today I might have to change poopy diapers", or, "I might have to listen to a mom who is upset about something”, but honestly, it’s my greatest pleasure to serve the clients that I work with - to really care for people. It is true that mothering is not always easy, and doing chores like changing diapers and taking care of a sad, sick, or not-feeling-good baby makes it seem as if those jobs never end. In my own home laundry never ends, and giving someone snacks or preparing food for my family of six never ends. It can feel a little overwhelming at times. So, I’m going to ask that when you feel overwhelmed, think about how you would want someone to care for you. Try to change your mindset and take a deep breath. Smile, and give that loving kindness and that attention to detail to the babies that you’re caring for, to the children that you're caring for, and see if it makes a difference in your day.
Thanks so much for being here. I appreciate you taking the time to watch this, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
